I come here all the time with coworkers and families for many years. Everytime the food is on point. Warning. This is authentic Szechuan food, so try not to order your 'normal Chinese food'. Be adventurous. The three dishes below is a must if you are here the first time. You can't go wrong with any of them. The Chongqing Chicken (spicy chicken) was a standout dish with its perfect balance of crunch and spiciness. Every bite was an explosion of flavor, and the heat was just right, leaving a tingling sensation on the palate from the Szechuan peppercorn. I like spicy food and this didn't seem too spicy for me, so please be cautioned when ordering this fish. The Twice Cooked Pork is another good dish. The tender, succulent pork belly was cooked perfectly, and the flavors were rich and savory. It's a dish that truly showcases the art of Szechuan cooking, and I couldn't get enough of it. They use pork belly as the protein, which adds extra flavor. Again, this dish is spicy for the spicy lovers. The String Beans Stir Fry was another gem on the menu. The beans were crisp and cooked to retain their natural freshness, and the seasoning was on point. It provided a wonderful contrast to the spicier dishes, offering a balance that rounded out the meal. The service is good enough, you get what you need when you needed. If you're a fan of Szechuan cuisine, this restaurant is a must-visit. Don't mind the outside, might look outdated, but the food inside is wonderful
My family's favorite Chinese food in the central Jersey area! Szechuan House has absolutely delicious Szechuan dishes that come with !! We always return probably on a monthly basis and the lazy Susans, large tables, and adequate spacing allows for larger parties to enjoy a wonderful eating experience!
First of all they're super nice and friendly here. They have all your Chinese food favorites, but ask for some recommendations and order from the Szechuan side of the menu. We got a really delicious crispy eggplant dish, fish with special wine sauce and wood ear mushrooms, spicy wontons and a scallop dish. Everything was delicious and fresh tasting.
Delicious, authentic Szechuan food. Friendly service. I especially appreciate that both American Chinese and authentic dishes are on the same menu, allowing us the choose. We have been other places where they would not give the authentic menu to non-Chinese customers. Round tables with lazy Susan's are available for larger parties. We live an hour away, but this is our new favorite Chinese restaurant!
Authentic Szechuan style chinese - those chilies and the excessive amounts of oil can be a little disconcerting, but if you dig this then the place is top-notch - the quality of meat is above par and the portions adequate.
Excellent double-cooked pork and chicken in garlic sauce. 'Spicy' was a bit on the mild side, but the bursting flavor makes up for it. Scallion pancakes were deliciously crisp and fresh, but maybe a tad oily.
Last time I must have hit this place at a low point as the surroundings looked run down and the service lethargic at best. Last week they seemed to be rejuvenated delivering a five alarm hot and sour soup and spicy tofu that made the roof of my mouth buckle behind a firewall. Now that's what I came for... the new paint job is a mere bonus. Five enthusiastic stars.
Happy to spend CNY with my fellow Princeton friends at this location. Good service, pretty solid food. Thanks for a good time!
How is it possible after living here for eight years we were never aware of the Szechuan House. Finally, finding a good consistent Chinese restaurant in the neighborhood one that has quite a large menu so I won't get bored quickly . This was our first visit, and the fact that they were willing to make a change to a dish right off the bat and not charge us extra which I was willing to speak volumes about the food preparation. They actually want to make the dish from scratch so it could've been any sauce any vegetables that we wanted . My wife started off with a traditional small wonton soup. I start off with a traditional egg drop soup and we shared two dishes. One was beef in a brown sauce with black mushroom and asparagus, and the other shrimp in a black bean sauce, to which we asked them to do half shrimp and half scallops. Both dishes very fresh really nice flavor. Nice presentation certainly was filling. It's a BYOB and would also helps us is that other Chinese families were enjoying dinner the same time that we were there so it's nice to know that local place is frequented by the residence by the big parking lot and they take credit cards very very sweet staff very caring
After months of saying we must check out Szechuan House after reading about them in NJ.COM earlier this summer, my partner and I finally had a dinner date at SH two weekends ago. Loved this place as soon as we drove onto the lot. The whole vibe is classic Chinese restaurant; I couldn't help but think of places my family would go to when I was a kid. The food surpassed expectations. We knew it was going to be good, but it was even better than we imagined. This is what we ordered that night. Great meal: - Scallion Pancakes - Sesame Cold Noodles - Choy Sum and Mushrooms - Eggplant in Garlic Sauce - Vegetable Fried Rice Everyone working there was friendly - greeting you when you enter and wishing you well when you leave. Szechuan House is a gem.
